12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Chamber of Commerce Board Room

SCFTA will be hosting two open meetings to gather input from the greater arts community. How can SCFTA serve you and how you can help us? The event will start with some info from Nikky Farmakes from the Superior Chamber of Commerce on listing your events on their events calendar and other marketing opportunities.

For almost a year, a small group of us have been working on transitioning this organization from a successful gallery based organization into a new, dynamic organization that can adapt to the changing needs of the community. We have been hosting events each month where connections and friendships have already formed. (Check out our past events to see what we have hosted. There has been some cool stuff.)

We are looking forward to your involvement.

This Is a Real Job: Insights Into Arts Work
A Free Event Open to the Public
Hosted by Superior Council for the Arts
Presented by Danielle Dresden & Donna Peckett

The Superior Council for the Arts is proud to welcome Danielle Dresden & Donna Peckett to UW-Superior to speak to regional artists and those interested in the economic impact of the arts. This event is part of the @wihumanities ShopTalk series.

Although it’s common to talk about a “work of art,” we seldom discuss the “work” of being an artist and making art. More than 43,000 Wisconsin residents are employed in arts-related businesses and the non-profit arts sector contributes approximately $418 million to the state economy. So why isn’t working in the arts considered a “real job?” This session will explore the difference between the myth and the reality of what it means to be a working artist. Donna and Danielle will offer this presentation as a duo, mixing humorous dialogue and rhythm dance with their personal backstage stories to involve audiences in a conversation about how the arts contribute to making a living and making a life in Wisconsin.

Stop by the Superior Council For The Arts informational table for some snacks and chat after the performance!

UW-Superior proudly presents an uplifting play for children and all ages, with one performance only! The national touring production from Puppet State Theatre performs "The Man Who Planted Trees,” an ecologically inspired tale of a French shepherd who sets out to plant a forest and transform a barren wasteland acorn by acorn. It is a touching and unforgettable story that shows the difference one man (and his dog!) can make to the world. Tuesday, April 4, 7:30 p.m., Manion Theatre on the UW-Superior campus.
